STRUCTURE:

The Objective of both Subgroups is the harmonization of legal metrology requirements and activities in the Americas in consideration of OIML Recommendations and Documents.

:.Subgroup 1: Laws and Regulations
 

Countries participants: Brasil (coordination), Argentina and Uruguay
 

Scope: To contribute to developing and maintaining mutual confidence between Legal Metrology Services in the Americas through:

a) harmonizing elements of legal metrology regulations,
b) promoting the consistent interpretation and application of legal metrology regulations,
 

taking into account OIML Recommendations and Documents.

:.Subgroup 2: Metrological Control of Measuring Instruments and Prepackaged Products

Countries participants: USA (coordination), Bolivia, Costa Rica and Jamaica
 

Scope: To contribute to minimizing technical barriers to trade through:

a) providing confidence in measuring instruments under legal metrological control used for carrying out measurements for equity in trade, public and worker health and safety, and environmental protection,
b) developing a regional mutual acceptance arrangement for accepting and utilizing type evaluation,
c) providing harmonized means and procedures for verification and tests,

taking into account OIML Recommendations and Documents.
